  第一个制造校园枪击案的凶手，是当时年仅16岁的高中女生布兰达斯潘瑟(Brenda Spencer)。

  1979年1月29日，斯潘瑟手持父亲赠送的圣诞礼物——含望远镜的长枪(赠礼包含500发子弹)，在圣地亚哥(San Diego)市住处外，向对街的克里夫兰小学(Cleveland Elementary School)瞄准定位，等到校长开校门、学生走进校门时，便开始开火。

  “有趣的”游戏玩累了，她返家等著警察找上门，接著又与闻讯来的警察进行了长达6个小时的对峙。在总共6个半小时的射击游戏中，打死校长和守卫、伤及8名6-12岁学童和1名警察。

  在对峙期间，她说，开枪原因是因为：“我不喜欢星期一”(I don't like Mondays.)。斯潘瑟后来因2项一级谋杀罪名和9项攻击罪名成立，被判处了25年监禁。

  斯潘塞从未为自己的行为表示过忏悔。据说，她最近在与室友闹翻了之后，还在胸前刺下两个名词： “Courage” （勇气）和“Pride”(骄傲)。
